Everything about Wanderers Comics totally explained

The Wanderers are a fictional group of super-heroes appearing in comics published by DC Comics. They first appeared as allies of the Legion of Super-Heroes in Adventure Comics #375 written by Jim Shooter, illustrated by Win Mortimer with a cover by Neal Adams. DC published a thirteen-issue series featuring the team in the late 1980s.

Fictional history

In their first appearance in Adventure Comics #375, the Wanderers were introduced as a superhero team that had been in existence several years before the Legion of Super-Heroes. The members of the Wanderers are:
  • Celebrand - an older male probably in his late 30s, the leader and strategist for the group.
  • Psyche - mistress of emotions
  • Quantum Queen - able to project or turn herself into any type of quantum energy.
  • Elvo - master swordsman who wields an energy sword
  • Dartalg - expert with blow guns and darts. Has several types of darts for use such as exploding darts
  • Orintho - born with wings he's able to shape shift into any other bird.
  • Immorto - expert marksman who can't be killed, instead his body automatically rejuvenates.
After meeting the Legion, the Wanderers are accidentally exposed to radiation in the Nefar Nebula that turns them evil. They steal a valuable gemstone, then face the various members of the Legion in contests of strength. The Legion manages to figure out what has happened to their friends, and reverse the process. The two teams part as friends.
The Wanderers can can be seen in the two page spread depicting the guests at the wedding of Duo Damsel and Bouncing Boy, which appears in Superboy #200.
In June 1988, the Wanderers appeared in their own eponymous title, written by Doug Moench, and illustrated by Dave Hoover and Robert Campanella. The series ran for 13 issues. In this series, all the Wanderers are killed, then recreated with upgraded powers, except for Celebrand:
  • Dartalg, who was changed into an almost monstrous form, with quills coming out of his body and out of his hand like talons instead of his simply using them as weapons, was given the name Dartalon
  • Elvo, who now owned a power-sword that fired emotion-triggered blasts became the Elvar
  • Immorto, who now had the power to heal and revive other people called himself Re-Animage
  • Ornitho decided he liked the name Aviax better.
  • Psyche kept her name
  • Quantum Queen also kept her name In 1993 artist Dave Cockrum's redesign sketch for the Wanderers was published in Marvel Comics' X-Men Anniversary Magazine and showed that one of the originally planned members was Nightcrawler, who Cockrum instead ended up using as a member of the X-Men.

    Threeboot

In current Legion continuity, the Wanderers are a "black ops" superhero group created by Earthgov. All but one of them are killed fighting the Dominators. The survivor, Mekt Ranzz, scoured the galaxy to create a new team, including Polar Boy, Inferno, White Witch, Nemesis Kid and others. While they've the same goals as the Legion, Mekt believes the Legion can't be relied on, although he attempts to recruit his sister (Light Lass), Karate Kid, Star Boy, Ultra Boy and Mon-El.
Unnamed members of the team include a figure resembling Tyr. In Supergirl and the Legion of Superheroes #22, Polar Boy contacts "Tarik", presumably the Threeboot version of Tarik the Mute.
